Overview The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath hosts the BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials. This Centre hosts 20 researchers and 50 PhD students. It has a strong reputation for fundamental research into novel materials, and its research citations are ranked fifth in the QS World Rankings for Civil/Structural Engineering.
People Professor Tim Ibell has over 20 years' experience in research into the use of FRP and fabrics in concrete construction. He is Vice-President of the Institution of Structural Engineers, has supervised 18 researchers, and has held 26 research project awards. He has won five best-paper awards from journals.
Dr Antony Darby has over 15 years' experience in FRP-related research. He has been lead author on Editions 2 and 3 of the UK's definitive guide to strengthening concrete structures using FRP materials (TR55).

Research facilities at the University of Bath are world class for work into innovative construction materials. The laboratories include structural, material-conditioning and material-preparation facilities, while equipment is continually augmented and updated via research funding and University investment.
